Tumble In RV Park is located just out side the funky West Texas town, Marfa. The big draws for this tiny town in the middle of nowhere are the vibrant art community and the Marfa Mystery Lights. This no frills RV park greets you with a great looking vintage style neon animated sign featuring a tumble weed. The sign turned out to be very accurate because the wind did not quit blowing the entire time we were there, and there were no shortage of tumble weeds making their way through the campground. It turned out to be a great stop on our way from Big Bend National Park up to New Mexico.
We stayed for a week because of our work schedule, but you can definitely experience most of the town over a long weekend. Many restaurants and attractions are not even open in the middle of the week. However, Tumble In’s rates were very affordable for a weeks stay. So we made the most of it and enjoyed our windy week.
They do have an online booking system, which is great, but if you have any questions or problems with a reservation they only respond via text or email. At first, we were a little frustrated that there was not a person we could directly talk to. However, with our bad RV Park experience in San Marcos still fresh in our minds, their check in process felt extremely painless. When we arrived we found that their “office” is just a vintage trailer, with no one attending it. To check in, they had a very short form for us to fill out and drop in a box. That’s it. Checking out, like most other RV parks, is as simple as driving away.
Although it is not an extravagant, they do offer the basic amenities that any camper may need. In addition to RV camping they offer tent spots. The RV parking sports are gravel an offer full hook ups (water/electric/sewer). The restroom and shower house were acceptable if you need to use them. The common areas include a kitchen, covered porch and community fire pit. Their one set of washer and dryer could be paid for on the honor system through a coin box on the wall. We opted to use the laundromat in town to get more done all at once.
While Tumble In is not much to look at, their no nonsense approach to running an RV park was refreshing. For the price, it is definitely worth a stay. We didn’t have any great expectations for this park or the town of Marfa before we arrived. We were surprised by the character of the town and This RV park is a good place to stay when passing through West Texas.
