We had a one week stay in New Orleans. We looked at a number of campgrounds that were closer to the French Quarter and had fairly low prices, but we had some concerns about the size of the spaces, and the safety of the area. We found Pontchartrain Landing, which seemed like it would be pretty spacious and not too far from the things we’d want to do. This RV park is located on a channel that connects Lake Pontchartrain to the Mississippi River. It is about a 20 minute drive to the French Quarter, and we relied on Uber to get us back and forth.
Upon arrival we checked in with the office, and found out our site would be right around the corner. After seeing it, we found out that it would not be big enough to accommodate our truck and trailer. For a moment I thought we might have made a mistake coming here if we were going to have to squeeze into a small spot. We could have just gone to one of those other RV parks and saved some money.
Fortunately, after going back to the office, they were happy to help us find a bigger space and drove me around in a golf cart to pick out a spot. So it worked out, and this RV park was sufficient for our short stay in New Orleans. The sites are all gravel, and ours was fairly level. We had plenty of room to back the trailer into the spot, with room left over to park the truck.
This was the first RV park we stayed at that had a bar and restaurant on site. It never seemed very busy, but we did stop in on our second night to get dinner and a drink. They do offer a pretty full menu, but on the night we were there, the kitchen had closed early so we were limited to chicken wings and appetizers. We were a bit disappointed and definitely would have preferred to have a meal rather than a bunch of fried food.
Amongst the amenities at Pontchartrain Landing are a pool and hot tub. December in New Orleans is not quite pool weather, but Steffanie did take advantage of the hot tub on a day off from work she had while we were there.
Overall, we were satisfied with our stay at this RV park. Pontchartrain Landing is a comfortable spot not too far from the action in the French Quarter. I bet this place is a bit more lively when it is not the off season. We would recommend this park. You can visit their website at: www.pontchartrainlanding.com.
