Less Stuff, More Experiences

Donating Items to Charity

Mike and I both consider ourselves to be minimalists. Well, probably more Mike than me, but neither us of like to have a lot of extra stuff laying around. (Mike takes it a little far if you ask me! I love my bottles and old book arrangements that he so lovingly calls “clutter.”) Anyway, it’s crazy how much stuff you can accumulate in just 5 years of living in a house!

January was definitely the month of clearing the clutter. We started with the bookshelf in the office and cleared out almost all the books, keeping only a handful. Six boxes got shipped off to be sold on Amazon. Mike took one overflowing box to Half Priced Books and got $25, which was great since we would have just given them away. It feels like a ton of weight is gone already. And it actually is, books weigh a lot!

Next, we went into all of the closets and began round one of removing all the unused stuff. We donated three bags of old blankets to Stray Rescue, several bags of old clothes and misc. items to Red Racks, and some nicer clothes to The Scholar Shop. We are still accumulating more and more into our “Donate Pile.” It’s crazy because it doesn’t even seem like we have that much less stuff. However, it is nice to open up the closets and reveal in their cleanness.

While donating stuff is nice, we also have several possessions that are worth selling online to get some cash for. It takes a little more work, but the extra money will be worth it. You can see the items we are selling under the “Buy Our Stuff” tab. Please share with anyone you think may be interested in any of it! We will eventually have bigger furniture items on there when we are ready to move into our trailer. We still have a lot to get rid off, but so far, we are off to a good start. The less possessions with have, the more free we will feel!
